This case comes from Acre WWTP, a ~10 MGD (~37,000 m³/day) wastewater treatment plant in Northern Israel. The plant is managed and operated by the BlueGen Water team and is known as a complex facility with challenging process conditions.
In the plant’s official 2025 annual report, the team described the value of implementing Maji over the past year and how continuous biomass analysis became part of their biological process-control workflow.
As written in the official annual report, translated from Hebrew:
“Over the past year, an advanced technology for characterizing microbial populations in activated sludge was implemented at Acre WWTP.
Using Maji’s AI-based platform, the plant performs continuous monitoring of microorganisms and filamentous bacteria.
This capability has become an important part of biological process control, supporting accurate determination of optimal sludge age, F:M ratio, and early identification of trends that may lead to process issues.”
This is an important case because the value was described directly by the plant team in their official annual report. Maji was not used only for occasional biomass checks, but as part of ongoing process understanding and decision-making.
The report highlights 3 practical areas where Maji supported the team:
Biological process control through continuous monitoring of biomass and filamentous bacteria
Operational optimization by supporting better decisions around sludge age and F:M ratio
Early trend detection before changes in the biomass develop into larger process issues
For a plant like Acre WWTP, this broader view is critical. Effective process control requires looking at the full picture: plant configuration, design limitations, influent characteristics, operational constraints, process parameters, and biomass condition together.
When these layers are connected, the team can move beyond isolated observations and receive insights that are relevant to the specific plant, not generic recommendations.
Maji is proud to collaborate with the BlueGen Water team at Acre WWTP and in additional plants. A special thanks to Keren Nof & alaa khtib - excellent professionals, and just as important, great people we truly enjoy working with 😊.
